Microsoft Azure – Get started in 4 easy steps!

It is a known fact that cloud computing’s popularity has surged to unprecedented heights. Plus, there is more! Forecasters like Gartner have also given cloud computing a thumbs up, signaling that it is here to stay. Given that Microsoft Azure is one of the dominant cloud computing service providers, it’s no surprise that the number of individuals wanting to make a career in Azure is increasing on a daily basis. If you share this desire, I am sure you are probably curious about how you could master Azure as well. This post will provide some pointers on how to get started.

Getting started

Recently, there has been a lot of demand for present and aspiring IT professionals all around the world to develop expertise in one or more cloud computing platforms. While seasoned IT professionals may be able to work with the cloud with little to no difficulty, newbies on the other hand may find the cloud puzzling and intimidating. However, unlike the others, as Azure is such a user-friendly platform, you may discover that following these easy steps makes understanding much easier than you might have anticipated.

Step 1: Understand basic Azure terminology

As with any other industry, cloud computing has its own set of lingo that you should be familiar with even as you prepare to work in it. Each cloud computing platform, on the other hand, has its own set of definitions. Here are seven Azure terms to become acquainted with:

Azure Active Directory (AD) is Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access manager, commonly known as a “tenant.” It enables users (workers, IT administrators, and Microsoft online subscribers) to log in and access resources within a firm.

Azure Resource Manager (RM) is a framework for setting up and managing Azure resources for enterprises. You may also use the service to create, amend, and delete Azure subscription resources.

Azure Stack: Azure Stack is cloud computing software that allows businesses to deploy Azure capabilities in a private data center rather than the public cloud.

The term “resource” refers to the many Azure service offerings, such as the Azure Virtual Machine, Azure Storage account, and Azure SQL database. Resources, on the other hand, must be associated with a resource group.

A resource group in Azure is a container for Azure resources. Typically, one group is in charge of resources that must be secured, maintained, and deployed as a whole, such as Azure storage accounts and the virtual machine required to run them. Resource groups can help you arrange your resources and, if necessary, build a security boundary.

Subscription: A subscription is the billing agreement between the consumer and Microsoft. Each Azure subscription includes a directory that can accommodate several subscriptions.

A virtual machine is a software representation of a real computer that runs an operating system (OS). Using cloud computing, several virtual machines can run on the same hardware at the same time.

Step 2: Sign up for a free Azure account to explore the Portal

You can go right through the portal once you have mastered the vocabulary.

But how do you do it?

Fortunately, Azure allows everyone, from consultants to IT experts, to receive free access to the site. Subscribers of the general public will receive a $200 credit for opening an account, MSDN members will receive $50 to $150 in Azure credits, and partners will receive credits starting at $100 per month. If none of these choices suit you, visit the Azure website and contact their service team to learn how to get free access to the system. Once you have  gotten a handle on the platform, you will need to brush up on some Azure fundamentals. You will be transported to the gateway as soon as you check in, where you will see all of the things you can buy with your credits.

Step 3: Register for an introductory Azure training course with an accredited agency

While exploring the Microsoft Azure portal sounds appealing, that is not the only way to learn about the platform. There is only so much you can learn on your own and if you are not a hands-on learner, a free login might not do you much good. With an introductory, instructor-led training course, you can attain real-world practice while an instructor provides you with professional advice and guidance.

Step 4: Know the best places to find Azure documentation

You may still stumble into circumstances where you will need extra support even after you have  gotten a stronghold on the course material and vocabulary or explored the portal. Microsoft, fortunately, is far ahead of you. After logging into the Azure site, you may readily locate thorough documentation published by Microsoft Azure. That way, if you get stuck in the middle of a project and need to find a solution, you would not have to search far.
